Mid-September Wedding

last weekend Orion experienced his first wedding. A lovely service and reception it was, celebrating my friends Sarah and Ben from my program. After a few shrieks and toppling over among the pews, Orion slept during the vows, and then was much admired and passed around during the brunch. Nevertheless, he took care not to upstage the bride.

Morning weddings have the advantage of allowing the evening to be reserved for travel to nearby friends' houses, in this case the idyllic home of Twig, Carole (quiltmaestra), Teddy-the-dog, and Baxter. And Orion already takes after his mama in her love of swings.

Seven-Month Activities

We've been building Orion's first fort...

Exploring Gillette's "Castle" with Angela and Jon...(a more eccentric fort)

Eating our feeting...

Growing chubbier...(well, just Orion, not the rest of us)

Sitting up like a professional sitter-upper...

...and just being darling and contemplative.

For Heidi

While I was in D.C. I took a picture of my favorite house; I like its proportions, its clean lines. Enjoy, oh friend who drools over pre-war houses! This one was built 1920. All houses should have the building date posted on a plaque on the outside--we could all be better at architectural history.

To D.C., S.T.J. and R.L.M

Ah, my far-flung friends. How I wish I could see you more often!
Thanks for entertaining my froggy boy on the train ride--what a joy it was to travel with you.
Thanks, my east-coast mom and Auntie Sam!
...with Nubby the hedgehog...
..and his cousin the glowing yellow hedgehog...
It was lovely, very Elizabeth and Mary, to see Rachel and her little Julia. Our visit was too short, but sweet like chocolate-chip cookies. Orion enjoyed her toys as well.
Here she is in her identical bouncer. What a delicate darling, compared to my own older solid dumpling. She's about two months here.

Some Amsterdam Pictures

We had a wonderful time in Amsterdam; Dan went to a conference, I enjoyed some work in the Rijksmuseum print collection, and Orion got in some terrific grandparent time. Thanks Grandpa Joe and Gma Karen for coming along! Orion traveled well, and ate in memorable locations such as Anne Frank's bedroom, in front of Titian and Rubens at the Rijksmuseum, during rijstafel feasts, and in the courtyard of the Frans Hals museum. As his main source of calories, I never turned down cream on top of my hot chocolate (the best was at De Joffers, where Orion beams over the menu, pictured here). And the last picture is for Samantha, who likes dahlias, and I thought of her at the flower market.
